Press Release submitted to Western Horse review on April 17, 2007

CANADIAN COWBOY MOUNTED SHOOTERS (CCMS)

Mounted Shooting is one of the fastest growing equestrian sports in America today and is making a smokin’ start in Western Canada. It's the combination of a fast paced timed equestrian sport and shooting two .45 caliber single action revolvers loaded with a special blank ammunition. Competitors ride a variety of courses requiring precision control of the horse. At the same time the rider must be ready to shoot ten balloon targets at a gallop or at least riding as fast as he can safely. Scoring is based on time running the course plus a five second penalty for each target missed or barrel knocked over. Competitors are grouped in classes based on experience and wins, with classes for Men, Ladies, Seniors, and Outlaws (under 12). The Outlaws are non-shooting competitors who ride the same course as the adults but are limited to cap pistols.

Jim MacIntyre of Longview, Alta is the founder of the Canadian Cowboy Mounted Shooters (CCMS). MacIntyre competes down south in the US during the winter months and holds the 2006 Cowboy Mounted Action Shooting Shooters Level One World Champion won in Las Vegas. MacIntyre holds workshops to safely launch interested riders and their horses to the sport.
